LOGLINE:
A teenage muslim girl struggling for acceptance in an american society.
CHARACTERS:
Aylin: The muslim girl around whom the entire story revolves
Lana: Aylin’s schoolfellow who is mean to aylin
Mam Dauna: Aylin’s social studies teacher who isn’t exactly a huge fan of aylin’s appearance
Students: A bunch of other students in the locker room and class.
SYNOPSIS:
Aylin rolls out her bed, goes to the washroom to change into her school uniform and then plays a song on her phone as she starts getting ready in front of her body length mirror by the window just like every other morning. Aylin proceeds with her daily morning routine and is almost done when she bends towards a small table on the left side of her mirror to grab her phone when she notice a hijab/veil laying underneath it. She grabs the phone and turn off the music as she once again bend towards the table and grab hold of the hijab. Aylin facial expressions changes and it almost looks like as if she is pain while she looks at the hijab in her hand. She then starts wrapping the veil around her head and in an instant her face lit up with the very brightest smile and she looks at her reflection in the mirror with a proud look on her but then then she abruptly peel off the veil from her head with a quick headshake as something dawns on her.
Aylin puts the hijab back on the table with a sad expression as the camera focuses on her hand and then cuts to a scene where aylin is pretty young and is in a middle school building but with a veil wrapped around her happy face. She walks by the lockers and gets ignored which didn’t seem to upset her but then when a girl with the same age as aylin , lana, deliberately bumps into her shoulder, pushes her into the lockers and leave with a nasty comment about her appearance instead of apologizing , is when aylin looks down with dismay. She can tell people were looking at her and talking about her as they pass loathing looks in her way. She walks to her classroom and have a severe breakdown when the teacher, Mam Dauna asks her to leave as her appearance was “unacceptable”.
The shot will cut back to aylin’s hand on the hijab just as she is putting it back. And then aylin gives her hair a quick flip over the shoulder as she looks at her herself in the mirror, straighten up her shoulder, put on a fake smile and walks out of her room.
